Antony Wynn

Antony Wynn read Persian and Turkish at Balliol and spent a year at Shiraz University in Iran. In the 1970s he worked in Hamadan (western Iran) as resident carpet buyer for the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers of  London, travelling widely over much of the country covered by Sykes, and then in north-east Iran where he managed a country racecourse. Here he introduced Jockey Club rules to the local Turkoman horsemen, who were not used to any kind of rules. Until recently he has been a regular traveller to Iran and is a friend of some of the descendants of those who worked with or fought against Sykes.
